Day 40
2 pounds 6.5 ounces

Not a lot changed yesterday. It was a pretty decent day for Ryan. His ventilator was turned down to a rate of 40. When we arrived he was only on about 46% oxygen. That's the lowest oxygen level we've seen in a long time. He was setting off the alarms because he was still satting too high! He still had a number of his episodes. Most of the them he just dropped into the 70s and low 80s. He did have a few where he dropped into the 50s or lower and needed some assistance. He didn't do real well with kangarooing, but the nurse and RT seemed to think it was related to the positioning of his ET tube. If it was in just the right spot he did well, but if he moved any the position was wrong and his oxygen saturation dropped.

Prayer Request: Please continue to pray as God leads you. Continue to pray that Ryan's lungs continue to grow and mature. Pray that more and more healthy tissue takes over the scarred tissue in his lungs. We are hoping that he will be able to come off the ventilator within the next 2 or 3 weeks. The scarring in his lungs is the most pressing and urgent problem for Ryan to overcome right now.

We went to a meeting last night and discussed everything preemie. One of the topics of discussion was related to feeding issues. A lot of talk was made about feeding tubes, Fundoplications, reflux, and oral aversions. All of these are issues we've struggled with and grieved over with Brandy. We realize we have a while before feeding by mouth is even offered to our little guy, but we would like to ask for prayers for these issues now. Please pray that everyone is astounded by how well Ryan does with feeding when the time comes. Pray that these feeding ailments common to preemies are mild or even non-existant. God can do that. Feeding is the last thing to be mastered before going home. He has to take all his feedings by mouth successfully within 30 minutes for 24-48 hours before he is allowed to go home. We are sooo looking forward to that!
