Day 36
2 pounds 2.8 ounces!

Ryan had a better day yesterday. He still had quite a few of his episodes. They were the type of episodes where his oxygen would be at 90% then drop to 50% without any warning. The number of episodes he had seemed to be a little bit less than the past 2 days. I was actually able to Kangaroo with Ryan yesterday. He did remarkably well. The nurses and RTs kept peaking over my shoulder and telling me that he was doing better than he had all morning long. They teased that they were just going to make a place for me to sit and hold him all day long. Little did they know that I would absolutely do that if it were allowed. Ryan is becoming quite the popular little guy in the NICU. Unfortunately it is because he requires so much intervention by the nurses and RTs to keep him going. Everyone knows Ryan!

Ryan is now being fed 11 ml every 3 hours. He was put back under the bili lights last Friday and he is still glowing a nice shade of blue. His ventilator is at a pressure of 22 and rate of 42. He receives Versed and Fentanyl alternately every 2 hours. He still receives TPN through his PICC line, and occasionally they add lipids. Yesterday was his last dose of Gentamyacin for the infection in his lungs. He has also been started on Phenobarbitol. It is an anti-seizure medication, but the nurse said they use it also to help with the bilirubin levels. This is something I am hoping to talk to the doctor about today. Phenobarb is something we know just enough about through past experiences that it concerns/scares us.
