This roller coaster is so exhausting. Something changed during the night. This morning Ryan had a really bad blood gas. The nurse said his CO2 was 73, and he had been having a lot of episodes. They turned the ventilator up to 50. This is the biggest jump in ventilator settings we've ever seen. The doctor said his lungs are looking more and more typical of chronic lung disease/BPD. He is now saying that Ryan has a moderate case of BPD. Because of the bad blood gas Ryan was extubated and reintubated. They put a bigger tube down this time. We still know very little about how Ryan is really doing and why such a change. The nurse we have today is one that does not freely give information. You have to pry to get any information, and you have to ask the right questions. I plan on talking the charge nurse today when I get to the hospital.
