Well... When we went to the doctor yesterday they checked his oxygen levels. He was satting at 97-98% on just 1/4 lpm of oxygen, so they turned it down to 1/8. After a few minutes they came back in and checked it and he was still satting at 97-98%, so they turned it down again to 1/16. After a few minutes they checked his oxygen saturation again and he was satting a little lower at 93-95%. So...we still have the oxygen. Ryan is to remain on 1/16 lpm of oxygen during the day and 1/8 lpm during the night and during feedings. We go back to the doctor in one month. It is so exciting that they were able to wean the oxygen down to such a low number. The next and final step is to be weaned down to 1/32 lpm until he is able to tolerate no supplemental oxygen. At first, when I asked about it, the PA said that Ryan would more than likely be on oxygen for another 4 months or more, but I think after yesterday's progress it's conceivable he could come off oxygen in another month. How exciting is that! Of course we will be patient and if it takes longer that's okay. We just want what's best for him.
