Day 53
2 pounds 7.6 ounces (We're going to have to have a party for the day he actually makes it above 2 lb. 10 oz.)
Ryan had a pretty good day yesterday. The doctor didn't make many changes. The only thing that changed was that his dose of chloral hydrate was increased. We kangarooed for 3 hours yesterday. He did great! However, he gets so comfy that he quits breathing on his own. The ventilator still breathes for him, but it's at a rate slower than many adults breathe.
Ryan's ventilator is still set on a rate of 14, pressure of 22, PEEP of 5.1. He receives Phenobarb and chloral hydrate through his NG tube. He is "eating" 21 ml of breastmilk every 3 hours. He receives MCT oil (fat) with every feeding. He gets breathing treatments of albuterol and Pulmocort. The doctor is still planning on giving Ryan steroids for his lungs, but he is wanting to get Ryan's ventilator settings as low as possible so the steroids give him the "last" little boost right before the ventilator is removed.
