Happy Birthday Ryan! 1 month old today!!
1 lb 12 oz!

Ryan is out from under the bili light as of yesterday morning. He is being fed 7.5 ml of breast milk every 3 hours, and he is tolerating his feedings well. He needed a dose of insulin yesterday afternoon because his blood sugar was too high. He is still de-satting and dropping his heart rate on a regular basis although his episodes haven't been quite as severe. His lowest numbers happen when he is touched. Ryan had a rough day on Friday with de-satting, and he just seemed very uncomfortable. He cried a lot. (Of course you can't hear him crying because of his ventilator tubing, but his face tells all). So, as of Friday afternoon the doctor wrote orders to keep Ryan sedated around the clock. He is now receiving a sedative every two hours. They are alternating between Fentanyl and Versed. Since he has been on this new schedule we have seen him more relaxed and peaceful than we have in many days. He has been so fidgety and agitated for quite some time. I read in a book about preemies that this inability to relax can correlate with the difficulties with breathing that BPD/chronic lung disease causes. We haven't talked with the doctor, so we don't really know their explanation of his restlessness.

Special prayer requests: Please continue to pray that Ryan's little nervous system continues to develop and that he will be less sensitive to touch and sounds. Remember to give God praise for his little advances however small they may seem.

Please say a very special prayer for Kenzie's family. She had a very bad day yesterday, and the family was called in. Mom and Dad got to hold her for a couple of hours. The doctors are saying she probably won't make it through the weekend. The family is having to make some of the most difficult and painful decisions for any family to make. Do they let her go, or keep fighting for her? There aren't any words to describe that kind of pain. We still know that God is The Almighty! We are praying for a miracle for this family.
