Ryan has been doing very well. He went to the pulmonologist in mid-August, and, as we expected, he was completely released from the oxygen. Now we are just waiting for the home health company to come and get the tanks. We have 2 large tanks and several (6 or so) small tanks taking up our floor space, so we are excited to see them leave. Ryan weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces (fully clothed) at the pulmonologist's office. We expect he is weighing around 9 pounds now.

It's hard to believe that Ryan is already 6 months old and very near 7 months. His adjusted age now is just four days shy of 3 months old. He is developmentally on task as a regular 3 month old in some areas, and he is advanced in other areas. He has great head control. He "talks" a lot with his "oohs" and "aahs", and he loves it when people talk to him. He has started to enter that phase of separation anxiety that all kids go through. It makes me feel good that he wants his mom, but it sure has been hard on Grandma at times. He has also started reaching for his toys! That was an exciting day to see him intentionally reach for something. Now he loves to lay on his mat with toys that dangle above him. His favorite seems to be a little multi-colored caterpillar. It probably won't be very long before he is reaching and grabbing it. Ryan hasn't started rolling over, but he is very, very close to doing so. He will turn side-to-side though. Ryan can turn circles. I can lay him on his toy mat facing one direction and before very long he manages to squirm enough to get turned around a little, and then some more, and then some more until he's almost made a complete circle there on his back. It's rather cute.

Just to let you know...our 9 hours at night (see last post) was a one time thing. Although I really can't complain. I would love to get 8 or nine hours of sleep, but Ryan will usually go about 6 hours between feedings at night. I can handle that, and I honestly feel blessed that he is doing so well at night. I feel so incredibly blessed that he is doing so well altogether. Sometimes when I think about where he has come I am just overwhelmed with emotion. I stand in awe. God has shown us great favor. He is an awesome God.

Prayer Requests: Please pray for a couple of families. A little guy named Ryder was born back in April (I believe that's right). He was born at 28 weeks and has been in the NICU ever since then. He is not doing well at all and has had major setbacks and complications along the way ranging from heart to lungs to major neurological issues. Pray for this sweet family. Pray that God's love, grace, and mercy be evident in their lives. Pray that God's peace would envelope them through all of this...whatever may happen.
I met another NICU mom just this week. Her little baby girl was born at 23 weeks. The baby was doing very well the day I visited with her. Pray for this little girl. I don't know her first name, but her middle name is Miracle. Pray also for this family. It will be a long roller-coaster ride for them for the next few months.
