Day 70
10 weeks
3 pounds 4.1 ounces
Ryan had a good day, and a very busy day yesterday. Our most exciting news...He had his very first bottle! And...He ate it all! The nurse fed him his very first bottle at about 3:00 yesterday afternoon. His bottle was 27 ml (just under 1 ounce) of breastmilk. This is the same amount that they are feeding him through his NG tube. He ate the bottle in less than 10 minutes. So, for the very first time yesterday he discovered what it feels like to have a full tummy. All of his tube feedings have been delivered over a 2 hour period. They are now changing his tube feedings to be delivered over a 1 hour period, so he will experience what it is like to a full tummy after feeding time. They explained that this will help him experience hunger and want a bottle. He had no de-sats, or bradycardias during his feeding. This is awesome! He will be offered a bottle once a day for a few days. They will then offer 2 bottles for a few days, then 3 bottles for a few days, etc. until he is up to 8 bottles a day.
Our other big news...
Ryan graduated out of the Critical Care Phase. He moved into the Intermediate Phase. This is one step closer to going home! (He is still in the NICU, but he has moved to a different room.)
Special Prayer Request: Some friends of ours just had twins. A little boy, Connor, and a little girl, Macy. They were born at 30 weeks. They are both doing well. It is still scary being in the NICU. Please pray for this precious family. They will be experiencing some of the same rollercoaster we went through. The twins will be having their echocardiograms to check to see if the ductus has closed this next week. They will also be doing the brain scans sometime soon. Pray that these little ones sail through this NICU stay in such a manner that everyone is simply amazed.
